Lehman College, The City University of New York
Lehman College of the City University of New York continues a tradition of internationalism that started in 1946, when the first meetings of the United Nations were held on our campus. Our students come from 138 countries and speak over 60 languages. You will feel right at home at the College and in New York City, which takes great pride in its diversity and the warm welcome it extends to its international visitors. A multicultural city, New York has a vast array of neighborhoods—many right near Lehman College—where immigrants from countries around the globe have settled. Food, language, dress, religion, and other aspects of culture in these areas provide continuity with the students’ roots.
Lehman College has been acclaimed by the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation for programs in biological sciences, psychology, mathematics and computer science, physics, and astronomy.
Examples of other notable degree majors include:
• business administration
• social work
• speech pathology
• mass communication
• multimedia journalism
Students’ classroom and lab experience is enhanced through internships with major companies and organizations.
For many international students, the Lehman ESL Institute is the first step to a degree program at Lehman. We offer an intensive English program, which fully complies with the F1 visa requirements and provides 18 hours of instruction per week in Grammar/Reading/Writing and Listening/Speaking. In addition, there are classes that focus on such specific skills as pronunciation and college writing. Students who complete our intensive English program and meet all other academic requirements may be eligible for Lehman admission without the TOEFL test.
